New Painting! ‘Basildene Manor’ recently we stayed for a couple of delightful days at the extremely grand, Grand Mercure, Basildene Manor in Margaret River, Western Australia.
It was very different from our usual bush camping and although there is a Jacaranda tree, my painting is something different from my usual work in its orientation and style. ‘God’s creation is my inspiration’
Gesso and varnished acrylic on stretched canvas 61x31x4cm
The front of the 1912 stone building is shaded by a massive oak tree grown from an acorn acquired from the grounds of Buckingham Palace around 1910. Granite rocks quarried on the property were used to build the walls, while beautifully polished local jarrah timber was used for the stairs, floor boards and throughout all the magnificent rooms.
Today this historic property is classified by The National Trust of Australia, as a significant heritage property and serves as luxurious holiday accommodation for discerning guests from all over the world....and a few ordinary folks like us.

OCTOBER 19TH 2017 MY ART ON DISPLAY
In a local Western Australia'N CHURCH
Yesterday with the help of my wife Lyn and encouragement from the wonderful folks at our local church, I was privileged to display and talk about my art and explain how I attempt to capture the essence of the natural world in its diverse splendour, colour and intrigue, but compared to the awesome wonder of God’s creation, the work of this mere mortal, reverts to nothing more than paint, crudely daubed, onto canvas.

NEWS! 24TH MAY 2015 - A LOVELY COMMENT FROM TASMANIA
Thriving Thylacine by Rex Woodmore
I received this lovely comment from a lovely lady (a talented artist) in Tasmania Nyra Aherne
Hello Rex. what a lucky find when I came upon your stunning collection of paintings. Interesting to see the Thylacine, but I would doubt it very much that it is one. There is a substantial reward waiting for anyone who can actually show a photo etc. of one. I am old enough to have seen one in captivity at the defunct zoo in Hobart back in 1936 and that was supposed the be the years they were around. I am going to follow you so that I can see more of your work. Warm wishes, Nyra.
|
My answer to Nyra:
Thanks so much Nyra. You are quite right in your doubts. You see, Eromdoow with it's ''Thylacine' is the sort of place I imagine I would like to live in.
Sometime ago I ''Discovered' the land of 'Eromdoow' I had completed a painting of what I imagined would be the entry to my ideal rural property (my dreamland if you like) and the name 'Woodmore Estate' kept coming to mind. But in the titles of my paintings I like to apply alliteration (The first & second word start with the same letter) and with this painting I struggled to come up with a suitable name. After much reflection (there is your clue!) in place of Woodmore Estate I settled on 'Eromdoow Estate'
(EROMDOOW-WOODMORE) Get it?...anything is possible in the imaginings of the artist (as you must know)
Regards, Rex

NEWS! 9TH APRIL 2015 - MY ART IN BACKGROUND OF A DOCUMENTARY.
Lost White Tribes of Australia
DOCUMENTARY: I was video interviewed In my home, with my paintings in the background, by Author Henry Van Zanden & Dr Dirk de Bruyn (Faculty of Arts & Education, Deakin University) about my diving on the 1656 Dutch East Indies (VOC) Treasure Ship 'Vergulde Draeck' (Gilt Dragon) with its 40000 silver coins.. One of Henry's books is the story of the Lost White Tribes of Australia which confirms longstanding rumours, never previously proven true, that a community of Dutch-descended people was found … in the early 19th century. NEWS! 10TH JANUARY 2015. WHO PUT THE ART IN MY HEART?
'God's creation, my inspiration. He put the Art in my HeArt'
“Advice is the easiest thing to give & the hardest thing to accept” In late February 2014 my brother Frank Woodmore, with kind intent, said to me: ‘’If you mention you are a Christian it will turn people off. You shouldn’t have it on your art-sale websites. People will not buy your art ” Not long ago I would have agreed with those sentiments, but that was before I believed! |
I always listen to advice, but you know what? I don’t always take it.
Especially when I receive contrary advice from a much higher source.
Not as an act of defiance to the person advising me, but as an act of thanksgiving to my 'higher source' of advice (He who sustains my life & gave me art to use for His purpose)
Instead of removing the Christian content, I decided to increase it.
Now, logic dictates that if the advice of ‘someone’ was correct, my act of rebellion should have seen a fall in interest in my websites and a halt to sales of my paintings.
But guess what? (I am not bragging about anything I did. It is not of my own doing)
Within 4 weeks of increasing the Christian content of my websites I had sold 4 paintings. Page views doubled (and even trebled on some sites) & unique visitors increased dramatically, to record highs.
On top of that I received more emails, than I have in the whole time I have been online. Through my treasure hunting site http://oztreasure.weebly.com people shared their stories and trusted me with confidential details about their shipwreck discoveries, Diamond prospecting projects & all sorts of things.
There was also a flurry of new people joining the free online gallery I provide for Biblical, Creationist artists http://artists4creation.weebly.com

Hello Rex,
I received Jugan Jacaranda yesterday. What a beauty! It's perfect! No issues with shipping. :-) Much lovelier in person than online. I will take the paintings to a frame shop this weekend and hope to have the masterpieces stretched, framed and on the walls within the next few weeks. I appreciate Trish's kind comments.
I don't think my paintings (Heron Haven & Jugan Jacaranda) could have gone to nicer people. They didn't even complain about all the long winded emails I sent to them! (Thanks Trish!)

27th MAY 2014 My art – My first painting comes out of the shadows!
I thought it was about time I brought it out of the shadows. Perhaps it will be worth heaps when I leave this earth.
My first painting 'Damsel Day' (2008) was inspired partly by Pro Hart’s Dragon Fly paintings and a photograph by my daughter, Larena Woodmore, of a Damsel fly. I used House paint, Builder’s adhesive and Marking pens on stretched canvas 60x90cm. I still have the ‘painting’ but few have seen it - Until now (2014) Below Right: Larena Woodmore's photo Damsel Fly

I have been commissioned to paint a similar painting to 'Just Jacaranda' which is 45cmx45cm The biggest difference is that this one will be the largest painting I have done.121.92cm x 121.92cm (4'x4'). |
26th MAY 2014 MY ART GOES TO FLORIDA!
25TH MARCH 2014
MY ART ON STAGE ! (ALMOST) In a town called Woodmoor .
A theater group in the U.S. in a town called 'WOODMOOR' wanted to use my art in their stage production. The director explained: One of the characters in the play has written a memoir, and I have been scouring the web for inspiration for what will become the cover of the character's book, as well as a large banner sign that the character uses in bookstores on her book-signing tour (these would utilize the same design).
|
The book and sign are used in the final scene of the play. The character recalls a story from her youth of chasing her brother over walls through jacaranda trees.
I was keen to work with them but had reservations. I explained that I am very protective of my reputation and the ‘Family Friendly’ aspect of my work and said that I am happy to see my artwork used for wholesome, productions suitable for viewing by children.
I received the following pleasant (but disappointing) reply:
Hello Rex,
Thank you so much for your speedy reply and all of the information. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to work with us.
I have great respect for your protection of the "family friendly" aspect of your work. To be quite honest, our play would most definitely not fit within your parameters - and especially would not be suitable for viewing by children.
So I thank you once again for all the information, but especially for the inspiration in your paintings. They are truly beautiful and engaging. I wish you continued success in your art!
Warm regards,
I guess my proposed painting ‘Theatre Tree’ just wasn't meant to be.

The thesis, by Ann-Therese King is titled- Jacaranda: The Tree Australians like to claim as their own. In it there is a reference to my art & a generous, five full pages containing ten images of my early paintings of Jacaranda trees. Thank you Professor Ashton & Thank you Ann-Therese King ! |
March 6th 2014 : I left a comment on a site talking about sharks
My Art in the Shark Debate!
I have dived with sharks including a Hammerhead Shark, White tipped reef sharks, Whale shark (the largest shark in the world) and I was once menaced by a Bronze Whaler shark.
I like all of God's creatures. But in all this debate we overlook the fact that the shark is a fish, fish is food. What is the problem with commercial licences to catch, kill & eat the big guys! A tonne or more of shark meat might be only one life! How many lives in a tonne of sardines? Is a creature of small stature of less value than a creature of mighty stature? |
FEBRUARY 12TH 2014 HYDROCRYL PAINTS. MY ART IN A PAINT TRIAL!
Swan Scene . Hydrocryl Acrylic on Canvas Panel. Recently I was asked by Alex Holzer of ‘Hydrocryl Pty Ltd’ to trial an Australian made paint. They kindly sent me a couple of samples of their Hydrocryl Professional Artist Acrylic. Primrose yellow & Emerald green are not colours I use a lot of, however I made a point of using them in my painting of ‘Swan Scene’ |
I found the high pigment quality of the paint to be to be quite useful, the texture was good and they mixed well with my regular paints & gesso. I was quite pleased with the result.

Look what happened when I Googled ‘Famous Australian Artist’ - Images
Google images are always changing, however on 12th February 2014, I was rather surprised to see my humble art ‘rubbing shoulders’ with the works of these famous Australian Artists - Pro Hart, Sidney Nolan, Albert Namatjira, Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Russell Drysdale and Mervyn Napier Waller.
I didn't expect to see Rex Woodmore amongst them!

January 9th 2014 WHERE IS EROMDOOW ?
In recent descriptions of my paintings I mention a place called ‘Eromdoow’
People have begun to ask: “Where is Eromdoow? “
One lady in the U.S. told me she wants to visit Eromdoow.
So I thought it was about time I explained this mysterious Land of Eromdoow.
In the titles of my work I usually apply ‘alliteration’ (Words starting with the same letter)
My painting ‘Eromdoow Estate’ began as the sort of place I imagined one day owning.
As I worked on the painting, I had ‘Woodmore Estate’ in mind, but that wasn’t using alliteration.
Sometimes it can be a struggle.... Eromdoow came out of one of those struggles.
‘EROMDOOW’ – ‘WOODMORE’
On ‘reflection’ Woodmore became Eromdoow (That should give you a clue!)

In my painting ‘Swan Scene’ one of my overseas artistic peers , complimented me on what looked to her like tulips.
My reply to her kind comment was: In fictional Eromdoow, the imagination runs free. My flowers are whatever you imagine them to be. It’s a place full of things we think we might know, But I think, it’s too warm, for tulips to grow. |
